The Bobby Scheme secures homes of victims aged 60 and
over, domestic abuse victims and people who feel at risk who are aged 65 and over or disabled residents.

Our Bobbies not only fit security equipment to the homes of the elderly but also give safety advice which helps victims feel safe in their own homes again. We offer the same service to non-victims for a small donation.

In October 2012 the charity extended its remit to include high risk victims of domestic abuse
Why the community needs this charity

Because we work closely with Cambridgeshire Police we are able to identify victims of crime aged 60+ within 24 hours and offer our security service immediately. We are then able to target crime hot spots in the county and secure the homes of non-victims aged 65+ in the area, thus reducing the likelihood of thieves returning to the vicinity. This not only makes people safer in their own homes but also reduces the fear of crime and enables elderly people to stay in their own homes longer.

Results and outcomes

Over the last 15 years we have secured over 24,000 homes. Our repeat victimisation rate is still less than 1%. This means vulnerable people are safer in their own homes and we reduce the fear of crime. By helping elderly people remain independent longer we reduce the cost of care and nursing home facilities.
Since October 2012 when we started to support victims of domestic abuse we have secured over 860 homes helping them to feel safe and allowing them and their children to remain in their own homes rather than go into refuge.
